Athlete Profile – Ellen and Derek Keller

ellen and derekGraduation is always an exciting time and we always know its only a matter of time before one of our IoTA family moves on. It has been great to get to know Ellen and Derek. Elen has landed a RN job and they will be leaving Cache Valley. We will miss them but wish them all the best as their life continues forward.

ELLEN

What’s your day job? I am a Starbucks barista just turned nurse!

How were you introduced to CrossFit? A friend and I were looking for new ways to stay fit and found crossfit on youtube. We saw how strong all those crossfit girls are and just had to try it!

What’s your favorite WOD or Lift? Fight gone bad. I love that kind of hurt where your whole body is on fire.

What is your favorite skill/movement that you have learned at CrossFit? I love all of the lifting movements I’ve learned, before crossfit I had no idea what to do with all those heavy weights.

How has CrossFit changed your life? Crossfit has given me a confidence I never had before. I always know I can walk into a cossfit gym and have friends that share something in common with me. No matter what is going on in my life, I can come back to the box and do amazing things with my body.

What keeps you motivated and coming back for more? Continually surprising myself by how far I can push myself. I’ve come further than I ever thought I could!

What’s something you know now that you wish someone would have said to you when you started CrossFit? Haha slow down! You don’t get strong overnight and you have to be patient with yourself.

One word to describe me would be… Driven

I have always wanted… A farm full of dogs and goats and horses and all kinds of random animals.

Outside of the gym, I like to… Go on adventures with my awesome husband and hang out with my doggies.

Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me… I secretly love those lame MTV reality shoes. Such a guilty pleasure, maybe they make me feel awesome about my life? Who knows

Favorite physical activity outside of CFI… yoga

Favorite place to eat in Cache Valley … Herms!! That French toast is uhhhmazing

Song(s) that gets me pumped up for a workout… Anything loud and angry, usually with some swear words included

The last thing I ate was… A big ol’ bowl of cinnamon toast crunch!

My proudest accomplishment is… I have three all from this year:
1. Marrying Derek
2. Graduating from college and getting my RN
3. Going to regionals with the IoTA Team

My six month goal is… Get stronger! 260 back squat, 190 clean, 140 snatch, so many other things

My favorite workout attire is… The less the better!

My favorite workout partner(s)… Anybody who pushes me, Jenni has been so much fun to wod with in the afternoons and I loved training with Cerissa for regionals

If you created a WOD and named it after yourself what would the workout be?

derekWhat’s your day job? Besides harassing Ellen, I am finishing school up and working at best buy.

How where you introduced to CrossFit? My wife Ellen held gun to my head force me to go wod with her. Now she can’t keep me away from Crossfit.

What’s your favorite WOD or Lift? My favorite wod would be pizza slices for time. My favorite life is the power clean.

What is your favorite skill/movement that you have learned at CrossFit? Favorite skill movement would be learning the pull up kip.

How has CrossFit changed your life? It has provided a way for me to still be competitive and lift heavy.

What keeps you motivated and coming back for more? The gains I have already seen and the healthy change on my body composition.

What’s something you know now that you wish someone would have said to you when you started CrossFit? That never really gets easier, you just get faster.

One word to describe me would be… Random

I have always wanted… Sky dive

Outside of the gym, I like to… To play with my dogs, and anything involved outside.

Three things you would always find in my fridge… Meat (bacon, steak, chicken), Vegetables, and Milk

Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me… I am quite the entertaining sleep talker, I like to yell out directions.

Favorite physical activity outside of CFI… I really enjoy playing Volleyball

My proudest accomplishment is… Graduating college and playing football on full ride scholarship for 4 years

My six month goal is… Be able to do muscle up, and drop my body fat composition down by 5%

My favorite workout attire is… Clothes

My favorite workout partner(s)… Joe Diancin when he isn’t getting mad at me for talking
